Steamed Spinach Dumplings (Palak Muthia)

This is a great way to use spinach and is a popular Gujarati snack. Enjoy with chutney, ketchup or masala tea.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup spinach chopped
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 3 tbsp oil canola
  • 2 tbsp water
  • 1 tsp turmeric
  • 1 tsp red chili
  • 1 tsp salt to taste
  • 2 green chillies diced

Instructions

  • Mix flour, oil, water, chopped spinach, spices and green chillies together to form a soft dough.
  • Apply some oil on your palms and divide the dough into equal portions. Shape each portion into a cylindrical log.  
  • Arrange them on a greased tray.
  • Add water in your Instant Pot and place greased tray on IP trivet.
  • Steam for 15 minutes on high pressure mode.
  • Remove from IP and let it sit for 5 minutes.
  • Cut into pieces and enjoy with cilantro chutney.

Notes

If you do not have an Instant Pot, you can steam them in a pressure cooker or stovetop. You can pan fry it after it is steamed with tempered oil, curry leaves, sesame and mustard seeds.
