Stewed Apples

This is an Ayurvedic inspired recipe using apples which are in season for the fall. You can also use pears too. I love the warming spices and great to have for breakfast.

Ingredients

  • 1 honey crisp apple large
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 tbsp jaggery powder
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon powder
  • 1/2 tsp dry ginger powder
  • 1 - 2 cardamom pods
  • 2 - 3 cloves
  • 2 - 3 saffron strands

Instructions

  • Wash, slice and peel one large apple.
  • In a saucepan, take water, jaggery powder, cinnamon powder, dry ginger powder, cardamom pod, cloves and saffron strands and let it boil.
  • Add in sliced apples and simmer for 10 minutes until fork tender.
  • Enjoy warm- liquid, spices and all.
