Spiced Sharbat

This is a delicious beverage commonly made by Jain families after Paryushan ends. It is made with mishri (rock sugar) and spices. It is very refreshing and great for digestion.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups water
  • 1 cup mishri rock sugar
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 6 cloves
  • 2 cardamom pods
  • 12 peppercorns
  • pinch saffron
  • 2 lemons juiced

Instructions

  • Using a clean cheesecloth, make a potli (pouch) with cloves, cardamom, cinnamon stick and peppercorn.
  • In a pot, heat up water and add in the potli of spices, saffron and mishri.
  • Let it boil until the mishri is completely dissolved in water.
  • Stir well and turn off heat.
  • Pour sharbat in a cooling tray.
  • Once it is cooled, add in lemon juice. Stir well.
  • Strain sharbat into a pitcher and store in refrigerator.
  • Best when served chilled.
