Jain Italian Sauce

This sauce has no onion, no garlic. You can use this for pasta, pizza or as a dipping sauce.

Ingredients

  • 28 oz San Marzano tomatoes can
  • 1/2 cup fresh basil leaves chopped
  • 3 tbsp olive oil extra virgin
  • 2 tbsp red crushed pepper
  • 1 tsp sea salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning

Instructions

  • Using a sauce pan, heat oil on medium heat.
  • Add in red crushed pepper flakes and sauté for 2 minutes.
  • Add in San Marzano tomatoes.
  • Using a wooden spoon, mash the tomatoes.
  • Add in salt and seasonings. Mix well.
  • On low heat, continue to let the sauce simmer for 20 minutes. Do not cover the pan.
  • Turn off heat.
  • Add in fresh basil leaves. Stir well.
  • Transfer to mason jar and let cool.
  • You can store in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.

Notes

I used Cento San Marzano Certified Peeled Tomatoes. I got it from Costco but available at most supermarkets. I used Spice Islands Italian seasoning which is Jain friendly.
