Fried Green Olives

These make for a quick and delicious appetizer for the holidays. These deep fried Sicilian green olives are stuffed with Amul cheese.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups Castelvetrano olives pitted
  • 2 Amul cheese cubes
  • 1 tsp oregano
  • 1 tsp red crushed pepper
  • 1 tsp sea salt
  • 4 tbsp panko breadcrumbs
  • 3 tbsp all purpose flour
  • 3 tbsp water
  • canola oil for frying

Instructions

  • Removed pitted olives from the jar and pat dry with a paper towel.
  • Stuff each pitted olive with Amul cheese. Continue until all olives are stuffed.
  • In a bowl, mix together flour and water to create a batter for coating olives.
  • On a plate, mix together panko breadcrumbs, sea salt, crushed red pepper and oregano to make a seasoned breadcrumbs for coating olives.
  • Dip each stuffed olive in the batter and then into the seasoned breadcrumbs until it is all coated evenly on all sides. Continue doing this until all olives are coated.
  • Using a deep frying pan, heat oil.
  • Once oil is ready, add in the breaded olives few at a time. It will take a few minutes until it is golden brown.
  • Place them on a tray lined with a paper towel to drain.
  • Serve them warm.
