Apple Pie Filling

This apple pie filling is great to prepare ahead of time and use in pies when ready.

Ingredients

  • 3 medium size Honeycrisp apples organic
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 3 tbsp water
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp corn starch for slurry
  • 2 tsp water for slurry

Instructions

  • Peel, core and dice apples into small chunks.
  • Toss apples with lemon juice.
  • In a large saucepan over medium heat, melt butter.
  • Create slurry by mixing cornstarch and water. This will help thicken. Set aside.
  • Add in the brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, water, cornstarch slurry and apples. Mix well.
  • Continue stirring, letting the apples cook, until apples are tender and mixture is thick.
  • Pour apple pie filling into a mason jar and let it cool.
  • You can freeze these until ready to use or store in refrigerator if using within 48 hours.

Notes

I bought organic Honeycrisp apples but organic Granny Smith apples can also work.
