Tomato Chatpati
This is a popular Jain dish that is serve with some masala tea.
Ingredients
- 4 plum tomatoes chopped
- 4 cups mamra (puffed rice) gently rinsed
- 1 tbsp urad dal
- 1 tbsp green chilies
- 1 tsp turmeric ground
- 1 tsp red chili powder
- 1 tsp asafetida (hing)
- 1/4 cup oil canola
Instructions
- Gently rinse mamra and set aside. Be sure not to over water.
- In a pan on medium low heat, sauté urad dal in oil.
- Add in chopped tomatoes and green chilies and sauté.
- Cover pan and let tomatoes cook on low heat for a few minutes.
- Uncover pan, add in spices, asafetida and salt. Mix well.
- Use a potato masher to mash the tomatoes and make into gravy.
- Add in your mamra and mix well until coated with tomato gravy.
- Turn off heat and serve warm.
