Bhaat na Muthia (Pan Fried Rice Dumplings)
This is a Gujarati recipe my baa would make and it is so delicious. This recipe is made easier when you have leftover rice. Enjoy with ketchup.
Ingredients
- 1.5 cup cooked rice
- 1 cup whole wheat flour
- 1/4 cup oil
- 2 tsp sesame seeds for tempering
- 1 1/2 tbsp oil for tempering
- 1/2 cup dahi (yogurt)
- 1 tsp red chili powder
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 1/2 tsp roasted cumin powder
- 1/2 tsp hing (asafetida) for tempering
- 1 tsp mustard seeds for tempering
- salt to taste
Instructions
- To leftover rice, add whole wheat flour, oil, dahi, red chili powder, turmeric powder, roasted cumin powder and salt to taste. Use your hands or masher to mix well.
- Grease your clean hands with some oil, and the take portions of the mashed rice to make into oval shape. Set aside.
- Heat a pan with oil, and add in mustard seeds to begin tempering.
- Then add in sesame seeds and asafetida.
- Place each muthia in the pan carefully and let it cook on both sides until it is golden brown and crisp. This will take at least 30 minutes.
- Enjoy muthia with ketchup.
