Apple Pie Filling
This apple pie filling is great to prepare ahead of time and use in pies when ready.
Ingredients
- 3 medium size Honeycrisp apples organic
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 tsp nutmeg
- 2 tbsp butter
- 3 tbsp water
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 tsp corn starch for slurry
- 2 tsp water for slurry
Instructions
- Peel, core and dice apples into small chunks.
- Toss apples with lemon juice.
- In a large saucepan over medium heat, melt butter.
- Create slurry by mixing cornstarch and water. This will help thicken. Set aside.
- Add in the brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, water, cornstarch slurry and apples. Mix well.
- Continue stirring, letting the apples cook, until apples are tender and mixture is thick.
- Pour apple pie filling into a mason jar and let it cool.
- You can freeze these until ready to use or store in refrigerator if using within 48 hours.
Notes
I bought organic Honeycrisp apples but organic Granny Smith apples can also work.
